Eventually it will happen to you as well. You're driving along, enjoying your leisurely drive home when you hear what sounds like a gunshot. A bolt of fear flashes up your spine as you look to see where the sound came from. That's when you notice your car starts pulling violently to your right.  Checking surrounding traffic, you quickly pull to the shoulder and get out to investigate. That's when you see it, your worst nightmare; a flat tire.  The scenario is not that dissimilar for other car emergencies but any one of them can happen to you at any time. Here are some safety tips while you wait for the tow truck. 

1. Stay Calm: Take a deep breath and remain calm. Being stranded can be stressful, but panicking won’t help. Try playing relaxing music on the car radio or some other relaxing activity.

2. Move to a Safe Location:  It's amazing how many people fail to think about their surroundings when they have an emargency.  Always remember: 
   
   1. If you’re on a busy road, move your vehicle to the shoulder if possible.
   2. Turn on hazard lights to alert other drivers

3. Exit the Vehicle Safely: Always exit from the side furthest from traffic. If you must exit into oncoming traffic, besure to wait until it is absolutely clear and then proceed to the side furthest away from the danger.  By all means don't try to flag other cars down by entering the roadway. With todays distracted drivers, you'll just be asking to be hit.
